Retrieve data from employee and employer documents via Finch’s Documents APIs. Now in Beta and supported for W-4 files.
Documents in HR and payroll systems like W-4 forms, W-2 forms or 941 forms hold a variety of useful data points related to employees. Until now, accessing this data has been limited to mostly manual processes.
Currently in Beta and supported for W-4 forms, Finch’s Documents product automates data collection from these documents using ML-based parsing. Finch helps standardize and classify the data returned, supporting multiple W-4 document formats.
Employers will grant Finch access to their Documents alongside our other Product scopes when they confirm permissions in Finch Connect. If you would like to access Documents data through an existing connection, the employer may need to re-authenticate to approve the additional scopes.
Finch’s Documents product consists of 2 read-only API endpoints.
The /employer/documents
API provides the list of documents available in the HR or payroll system for an individual employee or all employees and specific document types.
Currently, only W-4 document types are supported, but the API is built to scale out to additional document types.
The /employer/documents/{document ID}
API endpoint provides detailed information about individual documents based on the list of documents returned by the /employer/documents API above. For W-4 forms, you can gain access to filing status, dependent withholding and additional withholding details.
Documents data is a powerful tool for many different B2B use cases. Find a few examples of how Finch customers leverage the data from W-4 documents below.
